How To Make Your Advertising More Effective

Today, I want to share a few tips on how to make your advertising more effective.  I hope that these tips will increase the effectiveness of the ads you’re sending out not only on Ultimate Profit List but other advertising resources as well.  Now, in no particular order…

  • Be sure to check and double check your ad. If you don’t enter the URL correctly, your site will not be seen.  So simple to do it right, and so costly to do it wrong.
  • If you are using your own domain, make sure that your registration has not expired.  It’s not very impressive when your visitors reach a “this domain has expired” page from your domain registrar.  Keep track of your domains’ renewal dates.  You are a business owner and that’s what business owners do.
  • When advertising with banners, preview them so you can ensure that the image pulls up correctly and that you’ve entered your destination URL correctly.
  • Personal branding. “All things being equal, people do business with people they know and like. All things not being equal, people STILL do business with people they know and like” – Jeffrey Gitomer
  • Being able to see a picture of you makes you real, and reachable.  While your dog is great, you can share pictures of him in a Facebook album or on your “About Me” page.  But when you’re advertising, you’re better off showing the real you.  The photo you use doesn’t have to be stiff or a studio portrait.  Just a nice photo of you, preferably a head shot, from the shoulders up.  And SMILE!
  • DUSAP - Don’t Use Standard Affiliate Pages!  This is a “technical” term, coined by Jon Olson.  Basically, it’s about branding yourself.  Don’t use the same company provided affiliate pages that every other affiliate uses.  Make your own, show your uniqueness.  There are a number of places to create your own pages.  I personally like AdKreator.  There are a number of other choices such as Instant Splash, TE Toolbox, and TrafficCoupons.
  • Follow the instructions on the site where you are advertising.  If the site says use 468×60 banners, don’t try to put in other sizes.  They won’t be approved and you’ve simply wasted your time.
  • Look at others’ ads for inspiration, ideas and even what NOT to do.  It’s not a good idea to blatantly copy another person’s ad.  But you can use something as a basis for creating your own unique ad.
  • Advertise consistently.  You want to be seen as often as possible.  That way, when someone is ready to take action, you’re the person they want to join.  They’ve seen your unique splash pages, they know your face and they want to work with you.

That’s all for today.  Now that you know more about how to advertise effectively, GO ADVERTISE!

Good News Bad News

Well, you know the routine….

I’ve got good news and I’ve got bad news.

The good news (for me anyway) is that the referral builder glitch that I mentioned in an earlier post was not my fault!  WOO HOO!  The bad news is that it’s not fixed yet.

The good news is that it’s not affecting everyone, some people actually get everything to load properly.  The bad news is that it’s not fixed yet.  Oh, yeah, I mentioned that already.

The good news is that Mark McCulloch of The Internet Ad Store and Ultimate List Generator is working on a fix.  The bad news is that it’s not fixed yet.  Okay, now I’m just being redundant.

Rest assured, when it’s fixed, I’ll be shouting it from the rooftop!

Until then…

Housekeeping 101

As our membership is growing at a rapid pace, it seems time to point out a few housekeeping rules and regulations.  Sometimes in the excitement of signing up for a new advertising resource or even a new money-making program, it is easy to skim through, or even overlook, the policies that are put in place.  Rest assured that admins don’t put a bunch of rules in place to thwart your efforts, but they are in place to ensure that everyone plays nice, and so the neighborhood retains its value.

All that being said, here are a few things I want to point out…

  1. Only one account per person.  If I find multiple accounts, I have the right to delete them all, even if they are paid.  There is plenty of advertising available to you with only one account.
  2. Add your PayPal address so that when you are eligible for a payment, you’ll actually be paid.
  3. Change the default password to one of your own choosing.  The default password is upl6651 (please note:  letters u p l and numbers 6 6 5 1.  Some members have confused the l and the 1 and been unable to log in.)  Once you get logged in, change that right away.
  4. Your ads should have no more than one exit pop-up.  Trust me when I tell you that NO ONE is impressed by having to click multiple times to close out an ad.  You’re just shooting yourself in the foot, and if I catch them, I will delete them.
  5. Gmail, gmail, gmail.  I even offer bonus credits for using gmail.  Yahoo, hotmail, aol, etc. are not marketing friendly and are not welcome at most safelists, listbuilders and definitely not welcome at Ultimate Profit List.  Gmail accounts are free.  They’re not perfect, but will work better for you if you market online.  Go here to get a free account:  GMAIL
  6. Install the Ultimate Profit List toolbar It’s really cool.  I’ve added a drop down menu of quick links that will take you to sites like TrafficWave, AdKreator, IBOToolbox, ClickTrackProfit, Internet Marketing Tips & Tools, and several others.  You can access Twitter, Facebook & gmail from the toolbar.  There’s a Google powered search, plus you can log in to Ultimate Profit List directly from the toolbar.  AND you get 400 credits for installing it.  Just look on the right side of this page, near the top and install right from here.  You’re going to love it!
  7. Be sure to keep up with what’s happening here at UPL by reading this blog.  I don’t have any set schedule for when I post things, sometimes it’s when something important needs to be announced about UPL, or when a fellow member has a new site launching, general information, something funny, or when I screw something up.  Bottom line is you need to be kept up to date and that’s why I write and it should be why you read!  So, please do.

Okay, I think that is enough for now.  Just one final thing…. Thanks for joining Ultimate Profit List.  We are SO happy that you’re here!

Are You Trustworthy?

Are you trustworthy?

Recently, a line has been drawn in the Internet Marketing “sand”. It’s pretty clear that this line divides the ethical marketers from the scammers. You know, those snakes with all the hyped-up “auto pilot one click instant traffic be a millionaire by sundown” crap. The industry has had it, and many marketers have been very vocal about this recently. Maybe the scammers have simply pushed the envelope too far.

For years, we’ve seen digital “product launches”.  We’ve all become accustomed to them: a few pre-launch videos, maybe a free giveaway and then the big “reveal.” In many cases, it’s very useful stuff.  At the very least, its educational and entertaining. But lately, there has been quite a few “launches” that spewed outright lies. We’ve seen outrageous claims, fictitious product creators portrayed by paid actors, fabricated and doctored images presented as income proof for a product that can’t do what it claims or might not even exist.  Is that what we really want in the Internet Marketing community?

Marketers and consumers from every niche have been speaking out more and more against the snakes and scammers. The top industry forums are full of threads about these crappy products and the snakes that make them. Bloggers have gone crazy putting these guys on blast and Facebook has been buzzing for months about it. There are hundreds of YouTube videos where marketers and consumers of digital info products and software are speaking their minds. The final straw has landed on the camel’s back.

The public outcry was heard loud and clear by a select group of ethical marketers who have banded together to create the first website to unify the good guys and hold marketers accountable for their actions. The website is called and it has several purposes for both internet marketers and consumers of digital products. The members have all agreed to abide by the IMTrustWorthy “Prudent Practices” of Internet marketing. This is a list of 12 rules that help protect consumers from fraud and hold the marketer to a high standard of commerce.

First off, IMTrustWorthy provides a “seal” image with your unique license number digitally imprinted. The seal code can be placed on your website for the world to see that you are a registered member of IMTrustWorthy. When a visitor clicks on the seal a window pops open with the marketers name, and rating. The window may also contain comments from other IMTrustWorthy members regarding the character and trustworthiness of the marketer in question.

A member’s rating is determined by an algorithm that takes the positive and negative feedback left on their site into high consideration. This is a lot like the feedback rating in eBay except here the feedback is demonstrated by 5 stars and the comments are displayed on the marketers profile page. This is so that a potential customer or JV can look at what other members are saying rather than just having to take the endorsement of the company that sold the seal. In other words, you can’t just “buy” your trustworthiness.

That being said, there is also a “Premier” membership available for $17 per month. The premier members have some additional features inside the members area, they get a multi-site license which enables them to use the seal on as many sites as they own. Also, they get access to a “Seal Generator”, this is a software that lets you create seals in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Premier members also get to load a banner and link for their site which rotates in the website and can potentially bring consumers back to their offer. Over all this is a pretty good value for only $17 when you consider the prices that those “other” seal companies out there charge.

One of the things that you’ll like the most about IMTrustWorthy is the social aspect and the ability to meet other GOOD guys. The website has a “JV WALL”. is basically a communication page where you can comment on the threads and connect with other marketers. There is also an internal messaging system. It’s no Facebook, (then again who needs another Facebook?) but it is well suited to help marketers create joint venture partnerships and affiliations with other IMTrustWorthy members.  It makes me proud to see the other marketers whom I already trusted joining with me on IMTrustWorthy.

I think it’s about time that we band together and separate ourselves from the snakes and the scammers. All in all, this website is a WIN for the good guys. Sure, there will be scammers that try to brandish the IMTrustWorthy seal, but the other members will quickly make that known in the comments and their rating will drop. IMTrustWorthy doesn’t actually rate the marketers, the members do. If you ask me, that’s a pretty fair shake and only the scammers need  be afraid. I suggest you create a free account and check it out for yourself.
